Wish I was there!!!!
So Dublin are Leinster Champions 2006...woohoo!!! :)
In a packed Croke park Dublin successfully defended their provincial title making them the first team to win the Leinster title two years in a row since 1995. That year it was also Dublin and then the went on to win the all-Ireland ..So the omens are good for Sam!
I took a break from study to watch in in an Irish pub though unfortunately after the match the books were calling and I couldn't stay around to celebrate..I guess that I will just have to wait and then celebrate twice as much in September when we win the all-Ireland :)
It was interesting watching the match with some friends of mine (Brazil and Austria), Explaining the rules in German was fairly straight-forward well at least everybody understood the basics....Yes he is allowed use his hands....Nope that isn't a foul....So a goal is worth 3 points and over the bar is 1 point so far so good but we ran into problems trying when I tried to explain that the sport is completely amateur and the the players playing their hearts out in front of 80,000 fans are not paid anything at all and on Monday morning will be back in the office or that the players cannot switch teams that your team is decided by where you were born and where you live...Well then they had some problems understanding it.
It is hard to explain the special role of Gaelic games....One of the things that hit me yesterday is that even though the sun is beating down here it does not really feel like summer without the championship, I miss it.
I would have loved to be at the match with my family yesterday but my time in Berlin is coming to an end so the next match...I am there!!!
